Net metering with TANGEDCO: how it works for solar homes
Net metering turns your roof into a two-way relationship with the grid, and it’s central to how solar saves you money here. (Procedures change, so confirm current TANGEDCO requirements before applying.)
With a normal connection, electricity flows one way. Net metering makes it two-way: when you generate more than you use, the surplus flows back to the grid and you’re credited; when you need more, at night, you draw from the grid. You’re billed on the net, and a bi-directional meter records both directions — which is why a meter change is part of the process.
The process: apply to TANGEDCO, get technical approval, install your system, have TANGEDCO fit and connect the net meter, then commissioning — and your export credits begin. Forms, fees and timelines are set by TANGEDCO and can be revised.
One thing to know: a standard grid-tied system switches off during an outage, so it won’t power your home during a cut. A hybrid system with a battery keeps your essentials running while still exporting surplus when the grid is up. After solar, your monthly bill should drop sharply, because you’re paying for net usage rather than everything you consume. We manage the net-metering application alongside your subsidy claim.
